Cebu is endowed with nature’s beauty that makes each morning a scene to witness. The calming breeze in the beginning of the day paired up with a cup of hot coffee or a healthy breakfast will surely start your day right. But if Cebu’s rich natural resources and colorful culture is not enough to pull you out of bed each morning, maybe it’s time to spice up your home with simple DIY projects.

MUG REPAINTING

Coffee is always on top of any list that comes to mind when mornings are mentioned. But regardless if you are a coffee person, a milk lover, or a sucker for tea, you will surely need a mug. There are already a handful of fancy mugs out in the market, but wouldn’t it be nice to use one with your own personal creative touch?

What you need for this project:

  • plain cups or mugs (preferably white)
  • oil-based marker
  • an oven

Step One: Prepare the Materials

Any color of porcelain mug will work for this project. You can easily find these in thrift stores and they are sold around 50 pesos per piece. It’s important to remember that your marker should be oil-based to make sure whatever design you put on the mug will stick. You may use multiple colors if you wish to create more colorful designs. Wipes can also be handy as marker eraser.

Step Two: Draw

Get creative. Decide on what you want to put on your mug. If necessary, draw a draft on a paper then copy it afterward. You can draw your favorite comic character or a quotation. Or you can check out the web for creative ideas on how to design your mug. You can check here and here for more mug design ideas.

Step Three: Let It Sit

Let your mug sit dry for a few hours or overnight to make sure the design sticks to the mug. You may want to draw over to get the desired effect on the mug.

Step Four: Bake

Bake your mug in the oven for 30 minutes at 350°F. It is important to take note that the mug should be inside the oven before heating it up. You should also leave the mug to cool down completely inside the oven too, to make sure that the mug won’t crack.

Care & Maintenance of your?

To make sure that the design won't peel off, hand-wash the mug gently and avoid putting it in the dishwasher.

That wasn’t too hard, right? Ma-ayong Buntag, higala.
